Compost Awareness

ACP is your go-to resource for all things compost in California.

Compost affects everybody who eats, and California is the largest compost market in the country. We are proud to support the entire compost lifecycle, from organics waste management to transportation, processing, and application.

Whether you represent jurisdictions, educators, or land managers, ACP is here to support you and your unique compost solution. If there are any resources you would like added to this website, please email us at

International Compost Awareness Week

International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) is celebrated worldwide each year during the first full week of May. The mission is simple but powerful: bring people together to share the benefits of composting organics and using compost to build healthier soil.

The California Association of Compost Producers (ACP) organizes annual ICAW events. ACP members bring Compost Awareness Week resolutions to their state and local representatives, distribute posters, and engage the community.

ICAW is organized by the Compost Research and Education Foundation (CREF).

ICAW Book Readings and Poster Distribution

ACP celebrates ICAW in California by sending copies of "Composting for Community" to teachers and librarians who commit to organizing book readings for their communities. When you sign up for a book reading, you can also request up to 10 ICAW posters to be shipped to your school for distribution on campus!
